Whipstocks are an effective, cost-efficient tool for sidetracking from an existing wellbore. Sidetracking can be accomplished in open hole or thru a single or multiple casing layers. The whipstock deflects the mill to create a rat hole in the desired direction.
Applications of Whipstocks include:
- To avoid drilling new infill wells
- Reentry in existing well
- To drill small rat holes for formation testing
- To drill multi-lateral wells
- Bypassing obstacles such as fish and collapse point at the casing or liner
